Built on a multi-generational family property in a hilltown in Western Massachusetts and surrounded by the homes of siblings and cousins, this client wanted a modern/transitional three-bedroom home with copious amounts of wood and stone.

Unique features include burnished plaster walls, wood ceilings and floors, a large schist-clad Rumford fireplace, a cold cellar, home office space, a three-season room, and a workshop for their cycling passion. Windows are consolidated in large groupings to allow for expansive views of the surrounding mountains and adjacent agrarian structures while leaving room for furniture and art. A large open kitchen/dining room accommodates family gatherings with more intimate spaces located adjacently. The simple structures have a strong presence on the site, showcasing its quality craftsmanship without being ostentatious and integrating into the natural topography. The outcome is a success of the collaboration between client, architect, and builder.
