Designed for a friend and builder who wanted a forever house, this project was developed around gracefully aging in-place and features an elevator, as well as a main floor with primary suite and study, allowing for single-level living. Guest rooms are located in the lower level and detached ADU. Careful consideration was given to the structural precision and alignment with the abundant glazing throughout. A central courtyard provides an outdoor gathering space and an area to decompress before entering the home.

Discussions with long-time friends about designing a home for them came to fruition when the client—a builder and project manager himself—purchased a hilltop lot with beautiful views to the surrounding landscape. The client wanted to take advantage of the sloping site, maximizing views while maintaining privacy, and create a home that was both dynamic and relaxing at the same time—a combination of precision and beautiful simplicity. A central court connects soaring shed-roofed structures, which include an accessory dwelling unit. The house is planned with accessibility in mind, so the owner can gracefully age in place.
