About ADCi

Architecture for enjoying life

We are a firm on a mission to bring our client’s visions to vibrant life, to create space and place that both reflects and drives our clients’ sense of purpose.

In 2022, our team came together to form a worker-owned cooperative and bought the business from our founder Bill Austin. We are grateful to Bill for his many years of leadership and friendship, and we are excited to carry the firm into its next chapter together.

Meet the ADCi Team

Tom Chalmers

Tom Chalmers

Architect

I enjoy making the most of the demands of our farm to ensure that I am outside on the land as much as possible, enjoying the time with family, friends and dogs.

Architecture ± 10 words?

Spaces that wake you up and make you take notice of simple, everyday things.

Favorite ADCi project?

I would have to say projects where place, client, and builder listen and improv together to make great architecture.

Your dream client?

One that offers and accepts the respect and commitment of the other team members.

I enjoy cooking, swimming, skiing, and the ever-elusive good conversation.

Favorite ADCi project?

Tree House Brewing because it was about providing people who are into their craft as much as we are with a space that is worthy of that ethic and intention. It’s about the spirit of the place rather than any specific details.

Your dream client?

Ed Briones, a dear old friend.

Bryan Louisell

Bryan Louisell

I enjoy exploring, whether it be by foot, plane, skis, or boat.

Architecture ± 10 words?

Great architecture accentuates the experience through the senses, creating memory.

Favorite ADCi project?

Skier’s Haven because it is such a dynamic form that indicates from the moment you arrive that this is something altogether different.

Your dream client?

One that is involved, curious, and engagedthat gives the work life.

I like to spend time with people who are important influencers in my life as well as quietly sitting on the porch with my thoughts.

Architecture ± 10 words?

Great architecture is purpose driven and life focused.

Favorite ADCi project?

The current one, because each new project opens new avenues to deepen my understanding and creation of space.

Your dream client?

My Mom. Although, she would probably be my most difficult client.

The craft of creating places with intent and intrigue.

Favorite ADCi project?

I politely decline to pick just one.

Your dream client?

Is it bad to say… myself? Over the years, my napkin scribbles have focused on where I would like to eat or read. Hmm. Really says something about my priorities.

Architecture ± 10 words?

Balanced, usable, comfortable and, intuitive spaces.

Favorite ADCi project?

The favorite project is always the one I’m currently on. I invariably spend months living in a 3D model of a building that doesn’t exist yet… it’s a thrill.

I ski, bike, hike, and play.

Architecture ± 10 words?

Enlivening, inspiring, comfortable, peaceful.

Favorite ADCi project?

You might as well ask a mother which child she loves the most. They’re all a process of learning, hope, technique, and patience. It is maybe closer to birth than to building.

Your dream client?

Julia “Butterfly” Hill.

Bill Austin

Bill Austin

FOUNDER

I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, spending time in the natural and built environment, and being grateful for all that I have in life.

Architecture ± 10 words?

Architecture fuses art and science into a powerful energy that drives humanity’s relationship with the natural and built environments.

For me, this is ever changing. Right now, it’s the affordable sustainable communities we have and are designing, like Wisdom Way Solar Village, that meet the challenges of the climate crisis and social justice.

Your dream client?

Someone who is adventurous and forward looking, values architects and architecture, and is a willing partner with me in going wherever the project takes us.
